What Is Flaxton Provisional
A full day of veritable non-digital activities
FLAXTON PROVISIONAL offers a three part, full day of veritable non-digital activities. Students are guaranteed a fruitful ‘day out’, but within the classroom setting! At day’s end, students would have had ‘hands on’ experience in the use of Geometry Compass, Vernier Slide and Jewellery Scales, and other equipment in between.
The three subjects/activities chosen are designed to give students a glimpse into what might be of interest to those with a forthcoming profession in mind.

Flaxton Provisional Designer - Joseph Rooke
History | Experience
FLAXTON PROVISIONAL’s sole owner, the writer and designer of the aforementioned exercises, attended this school on the Sunshine Coast Blackall Range in the 1950’s, hence the business name. Never being credited as being keen on study, the teacher of this one-teacher school (Flaxton Provisional) often remarked my interest upon physical accuracy and my love of elementary geometry. There was also keen interest in Book Binding, Basket Weaving and gardening.
With the acquisition of both a degree tailored towards mechanical apprentice teaching and Teacher Registration gained in late 1998, quite ironically I was called upon to accept a day at Rochedale State High in March of 1999. The rest is a history of 27 enjoyable years as ‘substitute’ teacher both here in Queensland and in countries beyond.
